Housing Justice for All

Housing Justice for All is a statewide movement of tenants and homeless New Yorkers united in our fight for housing as a human right. The Upstate Downstate Housing Alliance is a coalition of over 80 organizations that represents tenants, homeless New Yorkers, and public housing residents from Brooklyn to Buffalo.

New York had a housing crisis before the COVID-19 pandemic. 92,000 New Yorkers sleep in shelters each night, and millions more are living one paycheck away from an eviction. We believe that housing is a human right, and that in the richest state in the richest country in the world we can eliminate evictions and end homelessness. We fight for tenant-and-homeless centered policy changes at the local, state, and federal level that advance that vision.

What we’re fighting for:

  • Eviction-Free New York — Good Cause Eviction (S3082/A5573)
  • Eliminate Homelessness — Housing Access Voucher Program (HAVP; S280A/A3701)
  • Social Housing for All — Tenant Opportunity to Purchase Act (TOPA; S3157/A5971)
  • Eliminate 421-a/485-a (“Buffalo’s Worst Tax Break“)
